Background
The Tauriko facility operates as a large-scale cold storage site, with areas maintained at –24°C creating extremely high and constant energy demand. Peak-time grid charges reaching 3.5 times the national average added significant financial pressure. With rising energy costs and growing pressure to meet Lineage’s global carbon-reporting commitments, a solution was needed to reduce grid reliance while supporting long-term sustainability targets.
NuGreen Solution
NuGreen delivered full end-to-end services encompassing system design, engineering, financial modelling, and installation. An 855 kW rooftop solar system was purpose-engineered to match the facility’s specific operating profile. The system was designed to reduce grid reliance, enhance energy resilience during high-demand periods, and directly support Lineage’s carbon-reporting requirements.
The Results
- 855 kW rooftop solar system – generating approximately 6% above forecast.
- Annual energy savings of 1,081,000 kWh and $227,010 achieved.
- Reduced exposure to peak-time grid pricing.
- Project delivered on time and above performance expectations. Lineage has since partnered with NuGreen for additional sites nationwide.
