Lineage Cold Stores – E & F Blocks, Hawke’s Bay

Background

The E & F Blocks facility in Hawke’s Bay is one of Lineage’s largest cold storage operations in New Zealand. Operational temperatures reaching –24°C drive extreme energy demand, while peak-time grid charges up to 3.5 times the national average add further financial pressure. Lineage required a large-scale renewable solution to offset base-load demand, reduce peak pricing exposure, and align with global sustainability reporting requirements.

NuGreen Solution

NuGreen provided full end-to-end services including system design, engineering, financial modelling, and installation. The solution comprised a 1.6 MW solar system with over 3,300 panels integrated into the existing building and main switchboard (MSB). Systems were purpose-designed to offset a significant share of base-load energy demand and reduce exposure to peak-time electricity pricing, meeting all engineering and compliance requirements.

The Results
  • 1.6 MW solar system – over 3,300 panels integrated into the existing building and MSB.
  • 15% net energy reduction achieved at site level.
  • Annual energy savings of 1,960,000 kWh and $411,600 achieved.
  • Strong alignment with Lineage’s global sustainability goals.
