BUPA Stage 1 Solar Delivery
Background
BUPA is the world’s largest aged care service provider, operating 45 sites across New Zealand – a mix of hospital-level care and assisted living facilities. Rising electricity costs and growing pressure to meet global carbon-reporting commitments created an urgent need for renewable energy solutions. BUPA also sought to future-proof their sites for off-grid capability and enhanced energy resilience across their 24/7 care operations.
NuGreen Solution
NuGreen delivered Stage 1 solar deployment across five North Island aged care facilities: Totara Gardens and Merivale in Whangarei, Taruru in Thames, St Kilda in Cambridge, and Riverstone in Palmerston North. The solution comprised 566 kilowatts of solar capacity across the five sites – five 100 kW hybrid inverters and 1,132 solar panels. Systems were future-proofed to accept battery integration, enabling BUPA to scale toward greater energy independence as technology evolves.
The Results
- 566 kW total solar deployment across five facilities
- Sites directly consume 80% of generated solar energy
- Approximately 30% reduction in grid reliance achieved
- Systems future-proofed for battery integration
- Meaningful contribution toward BUPA’s global sustainability commitments
“NuGreen delivered an energy-efficient lighting project within our commercial property at Antares Place. The business case was clear; execution was efficient with minimal disruption and the end result looked great. Energy monitoring throughout helped us understand the real achieved result also.”
