Nexan’s 1 MW Project

In partnership with NuGreen Solutions New Zealand and HELRimu, Nexans launched a groundbreaking 1MW solar farm in Taranaki, funded via Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Nugreen Solutions played a crucial role in helping Nexans achieve their decarbonisation targets.

Nexans commitment to Net Zero by 2050 as per SBTi includes near term targets of reducing our scope 2 emissions by 100% by 2030. To tackle challenge we installed the largest ground mounted behind the meter solar system in Taranaki, in partnership with Green Peak Energy & NuGreen Energy Solutions New Zealand at the New Plymouth Factory in New Zealand.

The 1MWh system that was commissioned in July 2024 has generated over 1.2GWh of Solar energy since commissioning, and the energy directly powering the New Plymouth and accounting for over 25% of the factory energy demand.

This project aligns with Nexan’s E3 business framework where they combined all elements of Economic, Environment and Engagement, where we collaborated with experts within the renewable energy sector to build a financially sustainable system and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
